Celebrating National Careers Week in Lincolnshire
The Outer Dowsing Offshore Wind team have been celebrating National Careers week in Lincolnshire, meeting the next generation of scientists, engineers and business leaders.
The Thomas Middlecott Academy Careers Day in Kirton was attended by 600+ pupils who brought much energy and enthusiasm to the day. As always, we were impressed by the high quality of the questions from across all the year groups related to careers in offshore wind.

At the University of Lincoln Academy Holbeach, Christine Grant (Environment Manager) and Jenny Marsden (Communications Manager) gave presentations about careers in offshore wind to the Year 7 & 8 year groups. They also met with the business and engineering sixth form students and held a Q&A session. Questions ranged from what type of roles they might be suited for to how an offshore wind turbine is installed. Students were pleased to hear about the wide range of roles available for a multitude of skillsets.

“OWIC estimates that there could be an additional 72,000 UK jobs in the offshore wind industry by 2030. A few thousand of these jobs will be created through Outer Dowsing Offshore Wind’s construction which is estimated to begin in 2027 with another 500+ jobs created during the 35 year operation period which will commence in 2030. The young people of Lincolnshire are interested in how they can get these skilled jobs and what it is like to work for an offshore wind project” Jenny Marsden, Communications Manager, Outer Dowsing Offshore Wind.
“Huge thanks to the teachers and careers advisors at Thomas Middlecott Academy and the University of Lincoln Academy Holbeach who do an amazing job at informing and inspiring the future trailblazers. It is vitally important that we invest in the skills of the future if we are to be able to reap the full value of the energy transition to the UK economy”

Later in the year the Outer Dowsing Offshore Wind team will visit Spalding High School for Girls, the King Edward VI School in Spilsby and John Spendluffe Technology College to continue our STEM and careers outreach.
Building up skills and knowledge in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) is an area that Outer Dowsing Offshore Wind would like to focus on in order to help bring long-lasting value to the communities closest to our project area. If you are a teacher in the area and interested in a visit from the Outer Dowsing team, please send an email to contact@outerdowsing.com.
