Outer Dowsing Offshore Wind Sponsors STEM tent at Future Fest

Outer Dowsing Offshore Wind was pleased to sponsor the STEM tent, “Planet STEM” at Future Fest, the largest careers event in South and East Lincolnshire held earlier this month at Boston College.

The team attended the event for a second year running to raise awareness amongst the young people of South and East Lincolnshire about the varied careers available in offshore wind. One of the goals of the event is to take students out of their school environment for a day to engage directly with employers and discuss future possibilities. We had thought-provoking conversations to help attendees prepare for their next steps, interactions that are especially valuable for those who live in more remote areas.

Over 850 students and 100 teachers from 17 different schools attended the event, which catered for a range of age groups and educational streams, providing equal opportunities for everyone.

The Outer Dowsing Offshore Wind sponsored STEM Marquee hosted over 20 businesses and employers offering a range of options in STEM themed careers. It was great to be accompanied in the STEM tent by our partners AOC Archaeology Group who are currently working on our onshore archaeological surveys. Students had the chance to look for real Roman artifacts found on previous digs and learn about how the offshore wind industry works to avoid or minimise impacts on archaeology before commencing construction.

Outer Dowsing is committed to leaving behind a positive impact on our neighbouring communities. Climate change and energy security affects us all, but the young people we speak to in Lincolnshire are especially interested to learn how the decisions we as a society make now could affect them in the future. They are also curious as to what kind of jobs offshore wind could bring, and which career pathways they need to follow to get them. It is essential that the next generation have the awareness and aspiration to aim high if the UK is to fully benefit from transitioning to a more secure and lower carbon energy future.

Thanks to Boston Borough Council, South Holland District Council, East Lindsey District Council and Boston College, the schools and exhibitors for making the event happen!
