Contract Role: Mechanical ENGINEER – H&V/FIRE/COOLING

Overview

ODOW is looking for a Mechanical Engineer for Offshore Substations to join the Engineering team. You will work as part of the wider project development team enabling the project definition supporting in a variety of topics associated with the works.

Outer Dowsing Offshore Wind (ODOW), a joint venture (GTR4 Ltd) between Total Energies, Corio Generation (a portfolio company of Macquarie Asset Management operating on a standalone basis) and Gulf Energy Development. The Joint Venture (GTR4 Ltd) has the seabed lease rights from The Crown Estate to develop a 1.5 GW project in the UK southern North Sea. The project is in the Development Phase with the aim to achieve all the necessary consents and complete the necessary surveys and engineering to enable the project to become operational before 2030.

This position offers flexibility to work from home or elsewhere with regular visits to London Office (Farringdon). Occasional business travel in UK and possibly further afield may also be required for this post.

Role description

The Mechanical Engineer will play a key role in defining the optimal solution for the mechanical, HVAC and fire safety systems associated with the project. This role with report to ODOW’s Head of Technical.

This is a leading role in responsibilities for managing the design, engineering and integration of mechanical, HVAC and fire safety systems on onshore / offshore substations, associated with the project to ensure that the design is successfully completed and implemented for the project.

The successful candidate will have strong project management skills and knowledge of the mechanical, HVAC and fire safety systems which are required for an offshore wind farm. Experience working in offshore wind is not required though this will be an advantage, and transferable skills from a related industry will be necessary.

Main responsibilities:

  • Preparation of technical documents/ papers for internal review
  • Preparation of employer’s requirements and technical specifications
  • Management of subconsultants ensuring that HSSE requirements are appropriately accounted for in the designs and that quality requirements are met
  • Responsible for the design of mechanical, HVAC, and fire safety systems on onshore / offshore substations
  • Review and develop technical specifications, design basis, lists, and calculations for mechanical, HVAC and fire safety components for both onshore and offshore substations
  • Review, develop and optimize technical solutions
  • Ensure that the deliverables from contractors are of the right quality according to requirements
  • Monitor compliance to applicable codes, practices, QA/QC policies, performance standards and specifications
  • Support to the project during the FEED, Detailed Design and Construction phases
  • Mentoring and training more junior engineers
  • Giving technical input to other project functions in your area of knowledge/expertise
  • Participation in project team meetings and cross-disciplinary co-operation
  • Contributing to project cost book
  • Participating in the procurement activities associated with mechanical, HVAC and fire safety systems in the project

Minimum requirements:

  • Be degree educated in engineering or a related field with proven experience
  • Be chartered or working towards chartered status
  • Have a successful track record in the delivery of mechanical, HVAC and fire safety systems
  • Have strong relationship management skills
  • Have highly transferable skills from a related industry (for those without offshore wind experience)
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work as part of a team

Specific role competencies:

  • Ability to carry out/ participate in optioneering to obtain the most favourable outcomes/ solutions
  • Have extensive relevant technical design experience within mechanical / HVAC / fire and safety design in offshore substations or offshore oil and gas projects
  • Have hands-on experience with P&IDs, design calculations, equipment sizing and specifications within mechanical discipline
  • Have a strong analytical and systematic approach, enabling you to handle a range of complex tasks quickly
  • Experience in mechanical design of Offshore Substations/ Structures
  • Experience in multidisciplinary projects
  • Familiarity with 3D design tools and preferably have previous hands-on experience
  • Knowledge within HVAC, cranes, emergency generator, MEL will be preferrable
